Nano Banana 2 is the newest generation of Google's Nano Banana image model in Gemini, the follow-up to the model that made figurine portraits and saree edits a whole genre. The short version: prompts you already use keep working, faces hold together with less coaxing, and complicated scenes fall apart less often.

What actually changed

The headline improvement is instruction following. Earlier versions would grab the loudest words in your prompt and ignore the rest; the new model works through multi-part requests more faithfully. Ask for 'a rainy street, me under a red umbrella, neon reflections, keep my face' and you are much more likely to get all four.

Face preservation also needs less babysitting. You should still write a keep line, but one is usually enough, where the old model sometimes needed the request repeated or the style words softened.

What still goes wrong

• Small text. Better than before, still not reliable. For posters with names or dates, Nano Banana Pro remains the safer pick.
• Hands and jewellery. Rings, bangles, and interlocked fingers still deserve a second look before you post.
• Over-stuffed prompts. Instruction following improved; mind reading did not. One scene, one style, one keep line per prompt.
